Terms

Using this site

loot is alpha software, hosted by one person. These terms say what that means for you in plain words.

Last updated 2 October 2026.

What this is

This site publishes loot, a version control system, and hosts a forge — a server that stores repositories for people who have an account here. It is run by Connor Miller as a personal project, from the United States, not by a company.

⚠ It is alpha, and that is not a formality

The software and this service are provided as is, with no warranty and no promise of availability. Formats may change, features may be removed, and the service may be taken down. Known issues lists the defects we are aware of at the current release; it is not a complete list of the ones that exist.

⚠ Keep your own copy. What you push here is kept: we don't reset hosted data, and the forge's records are backed up daily and kept for seven days, so we can restore to any of the last seven daily backups. Your files themselves are stored once, on Cloudflare R2; the copy on your own machine is the second copy. Restoring a single account's data on request is not available yet. Until it is, a restore covers the whole service. No backup can recover a lost key, because the service never holds your key in a form it can open: keep your 24 words.

The honest mitigation is built into the tool rather than into this page: loot is a distributed version control system, so a full copy of your history lives on your own machine. Keep it.

Your content stays yours

You keep all rights to what you push here. You give us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your content, to serve it back to you, and to serve it to whoever you have published or granted it to. Nothing here transfers ownership, and we do not claim a licence to use your content for anything else.

What is published is public. What is not published is served only to the keys you have granted; Trust & security describes exactly what the operator can and cannot read, including the parts we would rather you did not have to take on trust.

Acceptable use

Do not use this service to:

  • store or distribute anything unlawful, or anything you have no right to;
  • attack, overload or probe the service, or work around its access controls;
  • impersonate someone else, or use an account that is not yours.

If content or an account breaks the rules above, or the law requires it, we may refuse new pushes from it or remove it. We don't remove content for any other reason; running out of room on a plan pauses new pushes and never deletes anything. Where it is possible and lawful to tell you why, we will.

Accounts and leaving

You may stop using this service at any time, and you may ask for your account to be deleted — see Privacy for what that removes. Because loot is distributed, leaving does not cost you your history: you already hold it.

Changes

These terms will change as the project does. The date at the top says when they last did. Material changes to what we promise will be noted on this page rather than made quietly.

2026-10-02: we now keep what you push and back it up daily (see “It is alpha”).
